And so it begins…
But doesn’t everything?
You can shut up!
And just how’s that gonna work?
By you being quiet!
But I’m you!
I’m still you!
You see, everyone, this is a bit (and only a bit) of what I go through on a daily basis. The Endless Debate – which I call Ed – is exactly that, endless. I don’t remember exactly when it started, but I know I was rather young, a boy playing with his action figures. I had the advantage of being sibling to another creative. The toys our parents bought us weren’t enough. Why have Batman when you can go into Mom’s discarded fabrics box or Dad’s tool room and create The Scharr?!
From time to time, I tried silencing the voices in an attempt to fit in with the herd. In retrospect, I am glad I never truly succeeded in the effort. Think of the worlds I might have missed! But I digress.
As I developed and matured, so did Ed. There was, however, one very clear benefit to the exercise: I was stretching and striving to find another perspective. ‘Understanding’, for me, was more than a watchword, it was a call to duty, and I volunteered for the front lines. This made for the creation of other voices, other attempts at securing perspectives aside from my own. It made it easier to create, maintain, and develop characters that were more than simply extensions of myself.
During one rather prolonged episode of the Ed Chronicles, I came to the notion of creating a blog that would provide a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the development of the stories coming out of my mind. There’s a great deal going into the development of the ‘for the love of a good story’ sentiment, and for those that are interested, From Inspiration to Dedication (F.I.T.D.) will provide a few hints and glimpses into how the blocks are arranged.
